Yesterday I got to spend my afternoon with this wonderful couple. Let's start from the beginning. Their daughter Sarah is a friend of a friend. She emailed me to tell me her parents would be here in San Francisco for their Anniversary and that she is interested in having their photographs taken. I was thrilled!
I met with Ray and Judy at Union Square and we instantly hit it off. There was a huge gathering of CAL students in the center of Union Square and a blockade around the Christmas Tree (you read that right, the Christmas Tree is already up!). Since there would be no pictures worth it there we wondered over to this alleyway that I have been eying since I moved here. We walked down a block and found beautiful brick walls and a cute cafe had tables and chairs set up.
I asked them when the last time they had photos taken, Judy laughed and said "Our Wedding?". They both chuckled and then she continued "there were always cameras around, but we haven't had actual photos taken. Sarah really wanted us to have them done, so I gave in." And I'm glad they did!
When I asked them what is the secret to a successful marriage Judy said without hesitation "Patience!" then laughed a little and said "Compromise." Ray laughed at that one. I could clearly see that their secret is laughter. These two keep each other laughing, and I think that is the most incredible gift they can give each other.
